Oliver’s Mount Cock O’The North 2018 Cancelled

It is with utmost sadness that we have to inform road race fans, riders, teams and the media that the 2018 Oliver’s Mount Cock O’The North road races on June 23rd/24th 2018 have had to be cancelled.

Auto 66 Club and its team of volunteers have been working with Scarborough Borough Council for the last 6 months trying to bring the circuit up to the new strict, safety standards that will ensure not just the road races in 2018 continue, but also future events at Oliver’s Mount.

So far, the new required safety levels have not been achieved and so it is with a heavy heart that we have to cancel the 2018 Cock O’The North road races.

With regards to ticket refunds we will continue to try and resolve this complicated situation as soon as possible.

We continue to work closely with Scarborough Council to try and rectify the current situation and will update with any news in the coming weeks.

Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup Cancelled

It is with great sadness that we have to confirm the unfortunate news that the 2018 Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup event is cancelled.

For the last few months, many changes have been made around the circuit in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, to aid rider and spectator safety in preparation for us obtaining the required permit from the ACU to allow us to hold this event on April 21st/22nd.

New fences have been built, road signs moved, course markers purchased, additional marshals posts built and additional harris style fencing installed. The main problem however, remained with the amount of recticel that the Auto 66 Club would have to purchase to allow them to comply with the requirements of the ACU to obtain the necessary permit. The total of all recticel needed for the circuit is £90,000.

Peter Hillaby has worked tirelessly trying to obtain the required amount of recticel that would need to be added at key areas of the track. Sourcing recticel to hire has proven very difficult and the club simply could not afford to purchase the amount of recticel needed.

Our first club race at Cadwell Park was a chance for the Auto 66 Club to make some money to help fund the purchase of recticel. However, the weekend was tainted by a poor weather forecast and even worse weather on the day which actually caused day two of the event on Easter Monday to be cancelled. Rider numbers were extremely low and on a weekend that was supposed to help us raise funds, we actually lost money.

This week, we have continued to appeal to both the ACU and Scarborough council to give us more time to find a solution, one which we now feel we have with the kind gesture of the Ulster GP organisers offering us the required recticel; but it has just come too late to save this event with the permit and insurance needing to be in place already.

We are truly sorry to the race fans, riders, teams and media who have planned to attend our Spring Cup event. Postponing an event is something we do not take lightly, and we have fought as hard as we possibly could to get the Spring Cup Road Race event the permit it needs, but unfortunately it now has to be cancelled with a new date to be announced soon.

In the coming days we will be issuing another statement detailing the future plans for the Spring Cup event.

Thank you all for your messages of support. Oliver’s Mount is England’s only road race circuit. The history that has been created at this unique venue means we will not be ending the journey in this way. This is not the end, but the start of a new, safer Oliver’s Mount road race venue.

THE SPRING CUP TO BE TITLE SPONSORED BY SPADA

We want to thank Spada for their continued support of Oliver’s Mount. For 2018 they have become the title sponsor of the Spring Cup which is fantastic news.

Entries are filling up very fast for the Bob Smith Spring National at Oliver’s Mount, apart from the sidecars which are very slow to come in as usual.

This event has attracted a lot of Irish competitors as this will be the first Road Race of the season. A lot of riders are using the ‘Mount’ to warm up for the TT including several French riders.

If you have not got your entry in, please do so as soon as possible to avoid being disappointed. Entry forms can be found on this web site

The highlight of Saturdays racing will be the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup, which was postponed from last September, the same invited riders and grid positions will be used as posted last September, the Bob Smith event will be the prominent event on the Sunday.

Once again the meeting will include the first round of the Road and Track series. Unfortunately a sponsor this series has not yet been found, so we are keeping our fingers crossed. The second round of the series will be at Cookstown in Northern Ireland with rounds at the Southern 100 in the Isle of Man, Armoy, Croft, and Cadwell Park with the final round at the Gold Cup, Oliver’s Mount.

The only change is that the Ultra Lightweights have been dropped, but machines in this class can still enter the Lightweight also the 400’s can enter this class. Super Lightweights is for Supertwins and Minitwins, The Junior class is for 600cc 4 cylinder, 675cc 3 cylinder and 750 twin cylinder machines and the big class is the Senior for 700cc to 1100cc.

More news on the championships will be available in the next two weeks including the Cadwell Sidecar Bonanza, including the Super 2 Masters series

NEW START FOR SUCCESSFUL SEASON AHEAD

After two years of backroom problems the club is having a fresh start coming under the banner of Auto 66 Racing from 1st March, with PMH coming out of semi retirement and taking control of everything once again. This is the ideal time with Peter’s P.A. Alice Robinson’s contract coming to an end.
Alice is pursuing a new career to become a personal trainer. The club wish her all the best, but Alice has already said that she is available if we require her on race days.

PMH’s first job is to sort out the regulations for the coming season and the car events.
Secondly we are making sure that the web site is up to date. By then we will be into the race season.
Keep an eye on this site for the latest news as the season goes on.

The club are now on the lookout for a circuit manager come handy man to fill the void left by the death of Jim Adams. Anyone interested in this position should ring Peter Hillaby on 07970441104 for more details, this is an ideal position for someone who has taken retirement. All candidates must have a full, clean driving licence.

NEW ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR DUCATI’S

This championship will be run at all Cadwells and Croft, there will be a minimum of two races at each event, plus all the Ducati’s will be eligible for other classes. The machine eligibility will be published in due course.
More information is available from
Caroline Owen on 07376865609 or Dave Croft on 07921375158

ENTRY REGULATION BOOKLETS

This year there will be no regulation booklets printed, everything is now on this web site, once again you will have to download the entries, fill them in and send them back to the office. Unfortunately the ability to enter on the web site is not going to be completed for this season.
To help the club, it is essential that you enter, well in advance of the closing date, also it would be a great help if you could pass on this information and the dates to any rider who has not competed with us before.

NEW SPONSORS FOR 2018

As already mentioned SPADA are the main sponsors for the Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup, also the Festival of Speed on the May bank holiday weekend will be supported by St Catherines Hospice, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance have come on board to run the helmet park at Oliver’s Mount race meetings. It is hoped that Suzuki will support the Barry Sheene week end as in the past.
We are now on the lookout for a major sponsor for the Cock O’ the North and the Gold Cup. Anyone interested should contact Peter Hillaby on 01723 373000, when we will be able to design a package to suit all concerned parties

COMPETITION SECRETARY REQUIRED

Now is the time to find a replacement for PMH at the end of this season. Anyone interested in this post should have knowledge of the sport and have a clean driving licence. If you are interested please contact Peter Hillaby on 07970441104
